Alba, Fernando Álvarez de Toledo (y Pimentel), 3er duque de
(29 oct. 1507, Piedrahíta, Castilla la Vieja, España–11 dic. 1582, Lisboa, Portugal).

Militar español. Dirigió los ejércitos imperiales de Carlos V que derrotaron a la Liga de Esmalcalda en 1547 y fue virrey de Nápoles (1556–59). Como primer ministro de Felipe II, se hizo tristemente célebre por su tiranía como gobernador general de Flandes (1567–73), donde estableció el Tribunal de los Tumultos. Dicho tribunal desechó las leyes locales y condenó a unas 12.000 personas por rebelión. Llamado de vuelta a España en 1573, dirigió más tarde una brillante campaña contra Portugal (1580), pero nunca recobró el favor de Felipe.
